Wright Ideas Ltd
Privacy & Cookies
Last updated: 16 October 2026
This notice explains how Wright Ideas Ltd handles personal information in connection with Iain Rob Wright’s author website, reader newsletter and business enquiries. It applies to iainrobwright.com. Purchases made in our separate online shop are also covered by the shop’s privacy notice.
Who is responsible for your information?
Wright Ideas Ltd is the controller for information we collect through this author website and our reader communications. For a privacy question, an objection to marketing or a data-rights request, email author@iainrobwright.com with the subject line Privacy request.
Information you give us
When you request free books or join the newsletter, we collect the email address and any other details you choose to provide on the signup form. We use these to deliver the requested material and send the reader communications described on that form. Our email service is MailerLite. You can unsubscribe using the link in an email or by contacting us.
When you contact us about a book, interview, review copy, event, rights opportunity or another enquiry, we receive your contact details, message and any files you send. Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your enquiry.
If comments are enabled on a page and you choose to comment, WordPress can collect the comment, name, email address, IP address and browser information for moderation and spam prevention. A public comment and its chosen display name can be visible to other visitors.
Information collected when you use the site
The website and its hosting and security services process technical information such as IP addresses, browser details, requested pages and request times to deliver the site, detect abuse and investigate faults.
Our measurement setup includes Google Analytics 4, Meta advertising tools and an internal website-event record. These tools help us understand page visits, interest in books, newsletter-link clicks and visits sent to retailers or our shop. Website events can include the page path, book or link title, destination and event time. Our internal reporting uses n8n and Google Sheets.
A click to Amazon, Audible, a free-books page or our shop is an indication of interest. It does not, by itself, tell us that a person bought a book or completed a newsletter subscription. We do not use these website click records to make automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Cookies, advertising and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Similar technologies can include local storage and advertising pixels. Necessary technologies support functions such as site security and administrator login. Optional analytics and advertising technologies can measure use of the site or help assess and deliver advertising.
Advertising technologies require your consent where the law requires it. A privacy notice is not, by itself, a request for or evidence of that consent. Where a cookie-preference control is displayed, you can use it to accept or reject optional categories and revisit your choices. You can also remove stored cookies or restrict them through your browser settings; doing so may affect some website features.
Google Analytics can use identifiers and usage information to produce reports. Meta tools can associate website activity with advertising and, where permitted, a Meta account. Following a link to another website takes you to that service, whose own privacy and cookie arrangements apply. This includes Amazon, Audible, ReaderLinks, MailerLite landing pages and our Shopify shop.
Why we use information
We rely on consent for newsletter marketing and for optional tracking where consent is required. We rely on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries, running and securing the author business, and understanding website performance where that processing is lawful and does not require consent. Where an enquiry leads to a transaction or agreement, processing may be necessary to take steps at your request or perform that agreement. Some information must be retained or disclosed to meet legal obligations.
You do not have to join the newsletter to browse the website. If you do not provide a contact address for an enquiry, we may be unable to reply.
Who receives information?
Information is accessed by the people who operate Wright Ideas Ltd and relevant service providers for hosting and security, email delivery, business email, analytics, advertising and internal reporting. These include MailerLite, Google, Meta and n8n where the corresponding service is used. Shopify and relevant fulfilment or payment providers process shop orders under the shop’s separate arrangements.
We may also share information with professional advisers or public authorities when needed to meet a legal duty, protect rights or address suspected unlawful activity. We do not publish private newsletter addresses or enquiry messages on the website.
International processing
Some providers operate outside the United Kingdom or use international infrastructure. The applicable safeguards depend on the provider and the transfer, and may include an adequacy decision or approved contractual protections. Contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your data.
How long information is kept
Retention depends on why the information is needed. Newsletter records are kept while needed to provide the subscription; after an unsubscribe, a limited suppression record may be retained so the address is not accidentally added back to marketing. Enquiries are kept while they remain relevant to the conversation, any resulting agreement and applicable legal obligations. Technical and measurement records are subject to the retention settings of the relevant service.
We do not state a single retention period for all these different records. You can ask about the period or criteria applicable to your information, or request deletion where the right applies. Copies may remain temporarily in backups or where retention is required by law.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access or correct your information, request erasure, restrict processing, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or receive certain information in a portable format. You can object to direct marketing at any time. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Send requests to author@iainrobwright.com. We may need enough information to verify your identity before disclosing or changing personal data.
You can raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/. We would also welcome the opportunity to address your concern directly.
Security and changes to this notice
We use website security and access controls to help protect information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. This notice will be updated when the site’s processing arrangements materially change; the date above identifies this version.
