The Shroud

A horror novella

Some places are impossible to find. Others won’t let you leave.

Disgraced barrister Graham Solace expects a peaceful hike through the Derbyshire Dales. Then a strange fog rolls in, the landscape stops making sense, and a pub called The Crooked Stag appears through the mist.

The story

Are you brave enough to enter the Shroud?

Graham Solace heads into the Derbyshire Dales hoping a weekend hike will clear his head.

A strange fog arrives without warning. Thick, silent and unnatural, it leaves him lost and cut off from the familiar world.

Then a pub appears through the mist: The Crooked Stag. Warm lights, voices and the promise of shelter should feel like salvation.

Instead, the patrons seem nervous, the locals ask strange questions, and nobody appears particularly eager to leave.

As the fog thickens and reality begins to bend, every attempt at escape draws Graham deeper into a mystery that refuses to behave by ordinary rules.

“The fog came without warning. The pub wasn’t on any map. And some journeys never end.”
